Michael J Builds Faith Radio Movement with Purpose Driven Radio Launch

by James Will

Michael J, award-winning brand strategist and CEO of Billboard Center, has stepped into a new lane with Purpose Driven Radio, a 30-minute broadcast built around Gospel rap, inspirational music, and short bursts of encouragement. He calls it a “new assignment,” a phrase that captures how personal this move feels compared to his earlier work in branding and media strategy.

Rather than positioning it as another business expansion, this project reads more like a redirection—something shaped by experience, reflection, and a shift in what he now considers meaningful.

Where It Started

The idea didn’t come from a formal planning session. It came in the quieter moments after the passing of his father, when the pace of work slowed and the questions got heavier. The focus moved away from building visibility and toward something more fundamental—purpose, impact, and what actually lasts beyond success on paper.

Out of that space, Purpose Driven Radio began to form. Not as a campaign, but as something that felt necessary to put into the world.

As Michael J puts it, “This wasn’t about creating another platform. It was about creating something that actually speaks to people where they are.”

A Format Kept Intentionally Simple

The structure of the show is tight—30 minutes, no excess. Music leads the experience, with Gospel hip-hop and inspirational records setting the tone. Michael J appears in between tracks, not as a performer, but as a voice guiding the flow of the show.

There’s no attempt to stretch moments or overproduce emotion. The pacing stays direct, almost restrained, which gives the content space to land naturally.

Music With Substance at the Center

The playlist includes artists like Melvin Crispell III and Jarell Smalls, alongside other Gospel and inspirational voices shaping the modern faith-based music space. The selection isn’t built around popularity metrics. It leans toward songs rooted in message—faith, endurance, struggle, and perspective.

The idea is less about what’s trending and more about what actually resonates once the music stops.

Michael J’s Role in the Middle of It

What separates the show from standard radio programming is how Michael J uses his voice. He doesn’t dominate the space. He steps into it briefly, speaks, and lets the music continue.

His tone stays conversational and grounded. He often speaks to everyday pressure—things people carry but rarely articulate out loud. Scripture references like Romans 10:9–10 appear naturally within his commentary, along with simple habits such as reading a chapter of Proverbs daily.

As he explains it, “If someone walks away with even one thing that helps them get through their day, then the show is doing its job.”

Early Reach and Expansion Plans

Purpose Driven Radio is currently airing in select markets including Charleston, Augusta, and Myrtle Beach. The rollout is still early, but the response has been steady enough to support expansion plans.

By fall 2026, additional stations are expected in larger markets such as Atlanta and New York City, as the show continues to build its footprint.

Despite that growth, the structure and tone of the program remain unchanged.

A Different Direction for Media Use

For Michael J, this project represents a shift in how influence is being used. Known for branding and strategy, he now frames this work less around visibility and more around responsibility.

He describes it simply: “This is not a business move for me. It’s an assignment.”

That framing shapes everything about the show—from pacing to message to intent.

What It’s Actually Trying to Do

At its core, Purpose Driven Radio isn’t trying to reinvent radio. It’s trying to carve out space inside it—space where the message matters as much as the music, and where listeners can briefly step out of whatever they’re carrying.

Not as a solution to everything, but as a moment of clarity inside a crowded day.

Looking Ahead

As the show expands into more cities, the goal stays consistent: reach further without changing the foundation.

The direction is growth, but the identity remains fixed on purpose.

There are no separators at the end here, keeping it clean and flowing as a single feature piece rather than segmented blocks.
